Foot Health & Care
General foot care is about giving your hard-working feet the attention they deserve. This includes regular toenail trimming, gentle filing of dry skin, and checking for issues like fungus or blisters. We also assess bone and gait abnormalities – essentially checking your “wheel alignment.”

Corns and Calluses.
The pressure of walking causes the foot sole to thicken in certain areas, forming calluses and corns as a protective response. Calluses can indicate issues like walking habits, shoe choices, or even bony deformities, and as we age, we may be more prone to them due to reduced skin padding.
For stubborn calluses, professional treatment is available. To prevent future calluses, emollient creams help keep the skin healthy and flexible. Check out PRODUCTS for our recommendations.
Warts.
As Shakespeare once quilled “A rose by any other name would smell as sweet”, a wart by any other name would still be so painful and annoying.
Verruca plantaris, or plantar warts are caused by the HPV virus, which enters through cuts or weak spots on the feet, often in warm, moist environments like public pools. Cryotherapy, which freezes the wart with liquid nitrogen, is a common treatment, but it can be uncomfortable and may require repeat sessions. Combination therapy, including THUJA wart paint and tablets, can help speed up healing.
Fungal Infections.
Itchy, red, peeling feet, especially between the toes, could be a sign of Athlete’s foot, a common fungal infection that thrives in warm, damp environments like public pools and showers.
Anyone can get it, and if left untreated can infect your toenails, aka Onychomycosis, causing black patches and potential nail loss.
Athlete’s foot may spread to other parts of your body. To prevent this keep used socks away from your other laundry, especially your undies! Wear protective footwear in public showers.

Ingrown toenails (IGTN).
We hope you’re reading this purely for educational purposes and that you’re not currently dealing with a throbbing ingrown toenail (IGTN).
An IGTN occurs when the edge of the toenail grows into the surrounding skin, causing pain and potential infection, often affecting the big toe. Common causes include improper nail trimming, tight shoes, and genetics.
We offer professional nail trimming, to more serious procedures like a nail wedge resection, or avulsion under local anaesthesia.
Nail Injuries.
Nail injuries, whether from stubbing your toe or dropping something heavy on your foot, can be painful and vary in severity. Common types include:
- Nail bruise – A blood-filled balloon under the nail from trauma, causing pressure and pain. A podiatrist may drain the blood with a tiny needle for quick relief.
- Nail fractures -When the nail bed or matrix is injured.
- Nail avulsion – A complete tear of the nail, which may be reattached with stitches or superglue. This requires professional care to prevent infection.
Sweaty Feet.
Sweaty feet can feel uncomfortable and even a little embarrassing, and if this sounds familiar, you might be dealing with hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating. Your feet have 125 000 to 250 000 sweat glands, which makes them prone to sweating more.
With a good foot hygiene routine and wearing moisture-wicking socks you can help keep sweat under control.
View our PRODUCTS to find options to keep your feet fresh. In more severe cases, treatments like Botox injections can help manage excessive sweating.
Foot Odour.
Sweaty feet can lead to an unpleasant odour when bacteria break down the sweat on your skin. To combat foot odour, maintaining good hygiene is key.
